5 hurt in south Toledo crash

TOLEDO, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - A two-car crash in south Toledo sent five people to the hospital. First responders on scene say two of them are seriously injured.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at South Avenue and Arco Drive. Police report that one car ran a stop sign and drove into the side of an oncoming car.

Five people from both cars were taken to the hospital for treatment. Three people had minor injuries, but two of the victims are said to have suffered serious injuries.

The road was closed briefly while crews cleaned up the crash.

Toledo post offices safe from closure, for now

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – The U.S. Postal Service has announced it's putting on hold plans to close 600 urban and suburban post office branches, including 4 in Toledo.

Those who use Toledo Station A on Second Street say it's a vital part of their neighborhood and they want it to stay open.

"My business is on Main Street. We buy stamps here, anything we need to mail we drop it off here. We use the post office box from time to time. It's an important part of the neighborhood business district", says Dan Steingraber.

Surveillance photos lead to arrest, confession in bank robbery

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Surveillance photos circulated after a bank robbery Monday lead to the arrest of a suspect who later confessed to the crime Tuesday.

Tips lead police to arrest 35 year-old Jeffery McNeil of Toledo in the robbery of the Key Bank located at 1612 Broadway on Monday.  McNeil was arrested by the Northwest Ohio Violent Crimes Task Force around 3 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Broadway St. and Newberry St. in Toledo.

TOLEDO, OH (PRESS RELEASE) - Tembo Trail, home to the Toledo Zoo’s dynamic new elephant exhibit, is slated to open Friday, May 18.

Although the centerpiece of the new project is the $15 million elephant facility, funded by Lucas County 2006 capital levy voters and the zoo’s private capital campaign, Tembo Trail is more than elephants; it’s a fresh new look and feel to the area formerly known as the Savanna.

Burroughs neighborhood wants to use private security company

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Members of the Burroughs neighborhood organization voted to start Signal 88 patrols in their part of Toledo a little over a month ago, and with a June 1 deadline to collect necessary funds- they're still coming up short and on the verge of issuing refunds.

The Burroughs organization wants Signal 88 to do 6 patrols per day, 7 days per week In order for that to happen, a minimum of 350 families need to make a payment of $65 per year.

Altogether, the service costs just under $23,000 a year.
