SOUTH TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Toledo fire crews battled a suspected arson in the 5600 block of Green Ridge near Angola in south Toledo. Crews were even called back a second time to the house because the fire started back up again.
One woman inside the home escaped safely.
It began shortly after 3 a.m. Investigators speculated someone threw an object at the front door that may have contained an accelerant, then lit it on fire.
Firefighters then returned around 9:30 a.m. to find flames shooting out the roof.
Arson investigators are collecting the pieces of that object to identify any substances.
"The home is probably going to be a total loss. There's heavy damage and there is some compromise to certain areas of the structure," explained Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld of the Toledo Fire Department.
Fire crews said because of the heavy damage the home will probably need to be demolished.
In the meantime, anyone with information about the fire or any neighbors who may have witnessed something suspicious are urged to call CrimeStopper at 419-255-1111.
