Lucas County unemployment falls to 9.6 percent, Toledo to 10 percent

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Unemployment in Lucas County fell to 9.6 percent in September, a slight decrease from the 10 percent reported in August.  The City of Toledo unemployment rate fell slightly as well, to 10.1 percent in September.  The city reported 10.6 percent unemployment in August.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimates there are 199,400 employed Lucas County residents, with 21,100 still out of work.  In the City of Toledo, an estimated 130,400 people are employed, with 14,600 looking for a job.

Officials gather in support of Toledo Zoo levy

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Lucas County civic and labor leaders gathered at the Toledo Zoo Tuesday in support of the Zoo’s November levy campaign. 

The zoo is asking Lucas County residents to renew a .85 mil levy.  Despite losing $1.2 million in revenue over the last 4 years due to declining property values, the zoo chose not to increase the milage of the levy.
